Lake Garda
Lake Garda is Italy's largest lake: long and narrow in the north, where the mountains close in, and wide and flat in the south, where it opens onto the plain. Lombardy holds the west shore, Veneto the east and Trentino the top. The south has Sirmione's castle and Roman ruins and the towns on the railway; the north has the cable car up Monte Baldo from Malcesine, Limone's lemon houses and Riva under the cliffs. It rewards picking one end and staying put.
