Tuscany
Tuscany is the region around Florence in central Italy, and most of what people come for sits on a hill: Siena's brick fan of a square, the towers of San Gimignano, cypress-lined roads through the Chianti vineyards. Florence and Pisa hold the big-name art and the leaning tower, while the smaller towns sit up on ridges, which is why the way you arrive matters as much as the town itself. I think it rewards a day that begins with an early bus and has a plan for the ride back.
