Milan
Milan is the capital of Lombardy and the rail gateway to Italy's north. The city has the Duomo, Leonardo's Last Supper and the Brera gallery, but its other great asset is the departure board at Milano Centrale: Bergamo's walled upper town, Turin, Verona and Brescia, the shores of Lake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda, and Lugano across the Swiss border are each a train ride of about an hour and a quarter or less.
